About Us & Thank You's
The Railway Garden acknowledges the Wurundjeri people as the true sovereigns, caretakers and custodians of the land now known as Yarra. We pay tribute to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and pay respect to Elders both past, present and emerging.
When we stand in this garden we especially think of past cultivators of the land, and we do so knowing we have much still to learn. We deeply value the Indigenous heritage of North Carlton, a living heritage stretching back into ancient times and continuing to this day.
About the Railway Garden
Welcome to Railway Garden. The garden project was initiated by a small group of gardeners in 2008, who dreamed to one day establish a community garden in Princes Hill. Today, the new garden is beautifully located in Gallagher Reserve, on an old bocce court site, next to the North Carlton Railway Neighbourhood House in Princes Hill.
Railway Garden has been designed by a local landscape architect as an attractive, accessible organic food-garden. The garden will be run collectively, with no private plots. It will have 10 X 11m beds, some raised, some at ground level, another 6 small raised beds and a carefully restored bocce court.
A subcommittee is doing a lot of groundwork right now to organise the garden’s day to day management.
If you would like to be involved, whether you wish to garden regularly, join a working bee, participate in classes, help cook seasonal foods or just enjoy a cuppa in a nice leafy space – you are welcome
